We’re putting on a traditional HOP, à la classic 1950s entertainment (with our own twist of course). Be transported back to the last century for one night only with Melbourne’s best vintage performers: barbershop quartet Bobby and the Pins, and The JC Little Big Band.
Hosted by MC Bobby Blue, Big Band Barbershop Hop presents a night of dancing, comedy cabaret and glorious music featuring jazz, pop and barbershop hits from the middle of last century. Expect plenty of surprise moments and guest performers in the style of classic 1950s entertainment.
The night will be kicked off by a big band set from The JC Little Big Band featuring hits across the 40s and 50s, followed by cabaret and classic a capella from Bobby and the Pins – before the two come together for a collaborated set of 50s songs. Expect hits such as Mister Sandman, High Hopes and At The Hop. In the style of 1950s hops, you might even learn a dance move or two…
The venue has a spectacular stage and dance floor for those wanting to recreate those retro dance moves. Audiences encouraged to get dressed up in a circle skirt and pin curls or pomade hair and cabana shirt set.
About The Acts
Bobby and the Pins are Melbourne’s best-loved vintage barbershop quartet, recreating girl 1950s groups such as The Chordettes with full costuming and beautiful harmonies. You may remember them from recent productions Vintage Variety, and Glamping With Bobby and the Pins. They love nothing more than singing 1950s songs and performing comedy cabaret in the style of The Arthur Godfrey Show and I Love Lucy – with a their own twist.
The JC Little Big Band is a 10-piece band in the style of the big bands of the 1940s, playing a great collection such as Count Basie and Duke Elington. For this special event they’ll be extending their repertoire forward a decade for this collaboration with Bobby and the Pins.
